Photograph of Mimi’s mother, Gretta Gibbons, as a young girl with her brother and father. Gretta’s father was Henry Johns Gibbons. At the age of 41, Henry was institutionalized with manic depression, and held for the rest of his life at Norristown State Hospital in Pennsylvania. Growing up, Mimi was always told that her grandfather, Henry, was dead and that her grandmother was a widow. It was only later she learned that he had been institutionalized.
